Deng Xiaoping’s Bronze Statue Square
In 2001, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee approved the proposal to establish a bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping's in Deng Xiaoping's native place. The statue was created by Li Xiangqun, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, who had ever composed statues of Mao Zedong, Wang Zhen, Guo Moruo, Ba Jin, etc. The bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping, measuring 2.5×1.8×2.5 meters and weighing 1200 Kg, is placed on a base of black galaxy granite, sizing 4.5×6×0.8 meters. The statue was modeled on Deng Xiaoping in 1980 on his inspection to Sichuan province, sitting in a rattan chair in a short-sleeve shirt, army slacks and cloth shoes, impressing on people a feeling of warmth at home. Surrounded by woody mountains on three sides, like sitting in a seat, the statue looks solemn but easy. The statue was unveiled by the general secretary, Hu Jintao, on 13th, August, 2004. All five of Deng Xiaoping’s sons and daughters, as well as his younger bother Deng Ken and younger sister Deng Xianfu and Deng Xianqun, have successively planted trees here in honor of him. So have the Party and state leaders in their memory of Deng Xiaoping, among them were Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Huang Ju, Zen Qinghong, Li Changchun, Wu Guanzheng, Li Keqiang, etc.
