The construction of Deng Xiaoping’s Former Residence Museum was approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, designed by Xing Tonghe, chief architect at Modern Construction Group, Shanghai and inscribed by Jiang Zemin, the former general secretary of CPC. The design philosophy of the Museum is a combination of the style of a private residence in east Sichuan with that of modern architecture to embody Deng Xiaoping's unique charisma and extraordinary life experiences. Please look! The slope roofs on the right of the Residence imply the twists and turns, ups and downs of Deng Xiaoping’s life experiences of “three falls and rises”, and also indicate that after each fall in his pilgrimage, Deng Xiaoping would rise with greater success and more glorious achievements. The towering monument in the centre is a symbol that the great achievements of Deng Xiaoping are as high as heaven and will shine forever like the sun and the moon, and it is also a great banner of Deng Xiao-ping's innovative theory of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. The three slope roofs on the right of the Residence symbolize the noble personality of returning to common from great. In selecting building materials, hard granite and flexible teak were used to depict the tough character that “tempers force with mercy”. The simple and elegant appearance of the Museum reflects the unassuming quality of Deng Xiaoping. On entering the Museum, the tall and spacious lobby is shocking, impressing people with Deng Xiaoping’s breadth of mind and boldness of vision. The Museum is composed of the lobby, three exhibit rooms, one collection chamber, a movie theatre as well as the auxiliary rooms. All the exhibits on display were examined and approved by the literature research center of PCP. With the help of sound, light, electricity and other high-tech means, the exhibits well reproduce the brilliant but tortuous journey of Deng Xiaoping’s life. After the visit, you will have a better understanding of the glorious life and the noble demeanor of comrade Deng Xiaoping, and he will be remembered with the highest respect.
       When you enter the lobby, first an anaglyph titled “the Peak” comes into sight. It is 16 meters high and 10 meters wide. The background of the anaglyph is a large stone relief, scribed with images like high mountains, vast seas, the blue sky and clouds. Embedded in the centre of the stone relief is the copper relief, In the image, Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of reform and opening up is coming toward us, giving a good expression of a message that “No matter how high the mountain is, we can go beyond and stand to the highest position”. The character in the image looks lively, amiable and natural.
       The piece of anaglyph was designed and created by Yuan Yunfu, an artisan master of Chinese crafts. Scribed in the two side stone walls of the lobby were two paragraphs of texts. On the right is a quotation from Deng Xiaoping, “I am the son of the Chinese people. I deeply love my motherland and the people”. On the left is a high overview of the great achievements of Deng Xiaoping: The chief architect of China's socialist reform and opening up and modernization drive. He had made major contributions for the independence and liberation of the Chinese nation as well as the foundation of a new China. He had made painstaking exploration for the establishment, consolidation and development of China's Socialist system. He had established immortal exploits in order to successfully open the road of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. The lobby looks majestic and magnificent.

       His name is forever engraved on the epic of the Chinese nation in its vigorous strive for rejuvenation in the 20th century. For over 70 years he had struggled for the independence and reunification of the nation, for the course of reform and construction of the country, for the liberation and happiness of Chinese and for the magnificent cause of socialism and communism. His magnificent and legendary life has great influence on the world. Whether you are battle-tested veterans or peers of the Republic, whether youths in your prime or overseas Chinese, or curious foreigners, when you come into this exhibition hall, please experience the power and grandeur of the 20th century and admire the demeanor of the great statesman.
       All the exhibits in the three exhibition halls are displayed in six separate units, composed of a large number of precious relics, documents, photographs, film and television information and data integrated through multimedia technology. Some of the exhibits are on their premier display. They make a comprehensive picture of the extraordinary pilgrimage of Comrade Deng Xiaoping in different historical periods. Meanwhile, color bars between the upright panels and the horizontal show cases reflect events at home and abroad with a view to showing more information about the then historical situation for Deng Xiaoping. A quotation from Deng Xiaoping on each unit board is a brief summary of his remarkable career of the relevant period.
