The Old Well of the Dengs’
The Old Well of the Dengs’, called “Dengjia Laojing ” by the locals, is of a long standing. The old well, dug by Deng Hexuan, the ancestor of the Dengs’, during Ming dynasty, dating back to more than six hundred years ago. Strangely enough, the water level of the well is 60 cm above the ground, causing water to overflow out of the well continuously like a running trickle. There goes the local saying that there is plenty of water in the well all the year round, and even if in a year of drought, there is still “unlimited” water in the well. The water from the old well, warm and soft in winter but cool and sweet in summer, tastes very nice with its high purity. As the saying goes, “We are all what we eat.” The well has fed the great man Deng Xiaoping----he had drunk the water from the well for 15 years before he went onto the world stage.
